Weekend In Winthrop
One of the best things about living in Western Washington is the beautiful scenery, only a short drive from home. A few weekends ago we traveled with some friends to the quaint town of Winthrop. The four of us recently turned 50, and it was the perfect birthday getaway.
Winthrop is in North Central Washington, and the best way to get there is via the North Cascades Highway. This road is completely snow covered and inaccessible six months out of the year. Luckily, it reopened a few weeks before our trip. The mountains were breath taking, and there was very little traffic.
Winthrop is a charming town with wood sidewalks and an old west vibe. There is hiking, canoeing, and horse back riding in the area, but we were there for a more relaxing, laid back weekend.
Love this friend of mine. She has a heart of gold and a wicked sense of humor. Funny story about Jen - we went to the same college at the same time, but didn't meet until years later. Wish I would have known her back then.
We stayed in town at the Hotel Rio Vista because we wanted to walk to bars and restaurants. Our rooms were very comfy and right on the river.
We spent our time shopping, playing putt putt golf, and eating. And drinking a beer now and then.
Perfect weather, perfect friends, perfect weekend. When can we go back?

ReplyDeleteWow, how beautiful! Living here in flat Florida we don't see anything like those mountains, how gorgeous. I want to go! That's so funny that you and your friend were at the same college at the same time and never met - I had a very similar experience with some girls who are good friends of mine now, crazy, huh?! Have a wonderful weekend!

This kind of quaint town totally intrigues me. It looks so beautiful in it's own unique way. I've never been to Washington but my cousin is out there so maybe our little family should plan a visit out there. What is the best time of year to visit?

This is my kind of scenery! Although those other six months of the year. Yikes.
