Happy Memorial Day and welcome to the last link up with The Blended Blog for our Spring Time Fun series. If you're hopping over from Christy's blog, I'm so glad you're here. We hope you'll join us below and share your summer plans - I'm always looking for new ideas!
Ahhh...summer in Seattle. The time of year that rewards us for slogging through the months and months of cold, rainy weather. The temperatures are perfect, humidity is low, and the sun shines for days on end.
Although we had a taste this past weekend of the glories of summer, we're not quite there yet. June is typically a cool, cloudy month. We'll see what this year brings, but I'm not pulling my shorts out quite yet.
Once we get over the hump, and summer is truly upon us, we'll be spending our days relaxing on the deck, grilling our dinners, hanging out with friends, and getting outside as much as possible. After the craziness of this past year, we don't have a lot planned in the next few months. Here's what we'll be up to:
- College boy is off to Norway/Copenhagen/Sweden for a two week study abroad through his university. This trip has taken a huge chunk of our summer travel budget, but I'm so excited for him to have the experience. We'll spend the next few weeks getting him ready, and the time he's away waiting for pictures and stories.
- My cousin is coming to town from New York City, and we're going to hike part of the Wonderland Trail with her. She's doing the entire 93 miles around Mt. Rainier, but my knees are definitely NOT up for that. We'll join her for three days of backpack camping/hiking. The terrain is beautiful and challenging, so hopefully I can keep up!
- Lots of gardening. The starts have been planted, so now we wait and see how they grow. This year we're trying a straw bale garden, so I'll keep you posted.
- Summer wouldn't be complete without a trip to our favorite beach in Manzanita, Oregon. I'm looking forward to putting my toes in the water and my butt in the sand with a stack of books come August.
Next Monday we've got a special announcement, and then the following week we'll be starting a special summer series. Check back for the details!
The Wonderland trail sounds amazing! It's going to be a great summer and can't wait to hit the beach with you in 2018!!
ReplyDeleteTBB at the beach sounds perfect!
DeleteWe did not talk about my dislike of gardening.... did you know that my new house has turf in the back yard? Perfect for our family that can't keep a plant alive. Ha!
ReplyDeleteI'm not actually allowed to touch anything in the garden because I kill everything. I think turf sounds like a great idea!
DeleteHope all of your summer plans exceed your dreams. The Wonderland Trail looks breath-taking in more ways than one.
ReplyDeleteThank you Leslie!
DeleteWow! Norway/Copenhagen/Sweden sounds amazing! I am sure he will enjoy that trip a lot!! A relaxing beach trip is always nice, too! :) And, 93 miles? Impressive! I was tired after just doing my marathon! Lol!!! ;)

DeleteWe hope to go to the Canary Islands for a bit of sun. Your plans sound exciting. I am going to Oslo for one day in June.
ReplyDeleteHow fun! The Canary Islands sounds wonderful.
DeleteSounds like a great summer! 3 days hiking at Rainier is impressive. I did 1 day about 10 years ago and thought and still think, I'm OK with that!
ReplyDeleteI really hope I can keep up!
DeleteSounds fabulous! Thank you for hosting!
ReplyDeleteThanks Nancy!
DeleteYou are going to have a wonderful summer, Lana! Enjoy!
ReplyDeleteI'm so looking forward to it after the long winter we've had!
DeleteSummer in Seattle sounds perfect! Our son traveled to Europe on a school trip in high school. It was 10 days and he had a great time! It was expensive but so worth it for him. I'm sure your son will love it! We were able to Facetime a bit too and that was fun. Such a great experience. I love Summer!

How fun that you are able to catch up with your friend for 3 days of hiking. I don't know if I could do it, but it definitely sounds fun! I think one of your plans should be come to Southern California to visit your favorite cali girl :)
ReplyDeleteSounds like you have a fun summer planned! I know you are happy your son will be traveling abroad and expanding his horizons this summer. I hope you enjoy the bit of hiking you will be joining with your cousin. I love to hike. :)
ReplyDeleteI wasn’t able to study abroad but I’ve heard it’s an enriching experience and I’m so happy college boy will get to take advantage of it. The Wonderland Trail sounds exciting and challenging, totally my cup of tea. I would love to start a herb garden but my apartment doesn’t get enough light :( I’m don’t have many plans this summer, I want to do a few road trips, shoot down to LA fun some fun in the sun but I do have an exciting cruise planed for my 35th birthday in November.
ReplyDeleteWhat a fun linkup! I'm all about the strawbale gardening, as you know. I would love to get sun. We've had weather people liken to Seattle (funnily enough) and Ireland. It's been about a month of it. I can't wait for sun and road trips and having Des to myself a lot while Scarlet's at camp. (although I'll miss her a lot)
