As always, it's happened again. Another year has gone by, and my birthday has come back around.
Birthdays don't bother me. A few years ago I wrote about my friend Gretchen and her views on getting older. Basically, the alternative isn't ideal. I try to celebrate and feel grateful for the chance to live another year.
What I haven't embraced is enjoying that passage of time, especially lately. I worry and fret over the future, and spend more effort than I should wishing I could slow things down.
So I've set a goal for myself. In the next year, I will consciously work on enjoying the moments of the days, the weeks, the months. By this time next May, when I turn 50 years old, I plan to have a long list in my head of all the wonderful things that happened while I was enjoying the passage of time. As I often say....stay tuned.

I'm linking up with Shaunacey today to share some Monday Moments of Gratitude. This week I'm grateful for:
- Those milestone events that remind you of the circle of life - like T's senior prom on Saturday. 31 years ago, G wore a white tuxedo to our prom. For years T told us that he would also wear a white tux, and true to his word, he did it. It's like looking in a mirror. Well...other than the hair, makeup and dresses, which are so much more attractive now. Hey, it was the 80's.
In 1985 G borrowed a brand new Camaro from a family friend for prom night. And back to the future in 2016, T borrowed our neighbors' Camaro. I told them to tell him no, but no one ever listens to me.
- The long term friendships my boys have developed, with really great kids. Both of them have a core group of friends that they've known for years. They can count on each other, no matter what. Makes my mama heart happy...and grateful.

Making the Most of Every Day
What fun to carry on the prom traditions! Great photos - of both generations. Happy Birthday today, Lana - and while it's true right now we are dealing with many "lasts" I know you will be celebrating many "firsts." Those will be pretty awesome, too.
ReplyDeleteHow much fun that your son recreated how much fun that your son recreated your prom. Looks like fun!
