For the past thirty years or so, I've written resolutions to start off the new calendar. Most of the time they were specific tasks that I wanted to accomplish, usually related to wellness or relationships.
As I thought about 2016, I wanted to do something different.
This is going to be a challenging year, so rather than a list of things to do, I decided to set several mindful goals. I also chose three words that I hope will guide my days: kindness, courage, and most of all, strength.
I've never considered myself to be unkind, but what if I approach every person and situation with a heart of kindness? Even though I try to be brave, what if I resolve to have more courage?
And then there's strength. Will I be strong enough to face this year with kindness and courage? The answer has to be yes, because there is no other alternative that I can live with. If the answer is yes, this year will still be challenging, but it will also be positive and beautiful.
Stay tuned.

Thanks Sheila. It will be an interesting year!
DeleteI can't imagine that you could be much kinder! And you have had to muster all of your strength and courage in the last weeks of 2015, so I know you can easily meet these resolutions. I haven't made mine yet. Better get started before the first month of the year has come and gone.
