Happy first Friday of summer! The Style Me Bloggers are back today with a perfect topic for just such an occasion - our summer reading lists.
A day at the beach with a new book is my idea of heaven, and I ordered these six lovelies so I'll be ready when I head to vacation next month. Which can't come soon enough, let me tell you.
The Husband's Secret. I've only recently discovered Liane Moriarty, and I don't know where she's been all my life. I just finished What Alice Forgot, and it was so, so good. Her page turning books are the right mix of witty humor and intrigue.
The Martian. I actually ordered this for my husband, but I'll probably steal it from him first. I'm not usually a big fan of sci-fi, but the premise of an astronaut stranded on Mars is intriguing. Plus the movie is coming out in the fall starring Matt Damon, so I need to brush up on my space lingo.
The Rumor. This was recommended by my cousin, who was shocked that I had never read an Elin Hilderbrand book. She described it as "the perfect beach read about rich people behaving badly". What else could you want?
I Regret Nothing. I've been waiting impatiently for this to be released. I love every single thing Jen Lancaster writes, especially her "memoirs". I have to be careful where I read her books, because I spend the whole time laughing out loud and annoying those around me.
A Fine Romance. Candice Bergen is one of my favorite actresses and Murphy Brown is in my top five fave shows of all time. It's probably a little dated, but it was so well written and smart and you should watch it on Netflix. (Okay, so I just went to see if it's even on Netflix, and they only have Season One. What the what?) Anyway. This is Bergen's second autobiography, written thirty years later, and I know it's going to be so interesting.
The Dream Lover. Elizabeth Berg is another author that has been recently recommended to me. I can't wait to read this historical novel set in nineteenth century Paris.
And since we are the Style Me Bloggers, I must mention that Nordstrom's summer clearance sale is in full swing. This cute canvas tote would be perfect to carry all those books to the beach, and it's on sale for only $12.00.
Be sure to visit my stylish friends to find out what they're reading this summer, and link up your picks below. I'm always looking for new ideas!
Omg I loved Murphy Brown! That show was amazing. You just gave me some new books I need to read! Yay. Hope I see a few of these titles at Sams Club this week lol...that's where I usually grab books.
ReplyDeletegreat picks and that tote is super cute!
ReplyDeleteYour cousin's comment about Elin Hilderbrand's novels is on point and totally cracked me up! I love her books! Blue Bistro is one of my favorites by her. I need to look into The Dream Lover as I love historical fiction as well. Happy reading!
ReplyDeleteI was thinking the same thing! I read one of hers (I can't remember which one) but I literally read it in an afternoon.
DeleteI'm going to try the Rumor! sounds interesting:) I wanted to like the husband secret but it bugged me so much - are her other books similar??
ReplyDeleteThose look like awesome beach reads!!! Have a great weekend, girl! XO
ReplyDeleteI can't wait to get into some Erin Hilderbrand's books...I keep seeing them everywhere. And ditto on Liane Moriaty. I loved the Husband's Secret
ReplyDeleteYou're the second person in the link up to mention The Husband's Secret, it must be good!
ReplyDeleteI've been hearing lots of the Erin Hilderbrand books. Next up on my summer reads. I like light reads for summer. And What Alice Forgot is probably one of my favorite reads in the past few years.
ReplyDeleteThank you for providing a synopsis of each. Now I have more titles to add to my ever-growing list. XO
ReplyDeleteIntrigued by every one of your suggestions. I've been looking for some great summer reading and love it when I get recommendations from my friends. Thank you! And have fun!
ReplyDeleteCute tote! Thanks for the great book ideas, too.
ReplyDeleteI always love getting book suggestions. Although I don't usually gravitate to science fiction, I may need to read Martian first! The movie Interstellar has stuck with me more than any other I have seen for quite some time. While I was looking up at the stars last night, I couldn't stop thinking about humans actually moving up there one day !?!!?!
ReplyDeleteGreat reading list! I'll be adding a few to my list. :-) I loved The Husband's Secret. I can't wait to hear what you thought, once you finish!
ReplyDeleteI want to read The Husband's Secret.
ReplyDeleteAnd I always get excited/nervous for Elin Hilderbrand's novels! They always affect me, but sometimes they're very sad.
Love, love loved The Husbands's Secret!! So relatable and fun mystery right 'til the end! Be sure and read the Epilogue. That's where the magic happens!
