Happy May Day! When my boys were little they loved gathering flowers and bringing them to our neighbors on May 1st. The first year that we moved to our current house, the lady next door marched over to inform me that T had brought her a lovely bouquet - picked from her yard! Oops. Good thing he was so cute.
I'm excited today to be linking up again with the Style Me Bloggers to share our favorite rain gear and floral trends.
While Seattle certainly gets its share of showers this time of year (hmm...more like never ending rain), locals don't often wear rain gear or use umbrellas (or as I like to call them, bumbershoots). If someone is walking down the street in a trench coat and rain boots, they are most likely a tourist.
Having said that, I do own a LOT of coats. I just rarely wear them, unless it's really cold or I'm skiing.
Our hall closet. And yes, those are all mine. My husbands' have been squished to the right. |
The good thing about spring Seattle rain is how green and colorful everything is. As I drove home from the store this week I stopped and took some pictures of my neighbors' beautiful yards. Instead of floral trends, I give you flowers!
Oh my Lana! The flowers in your neighborhood are stunning! Our spring was so late this year, but typically we don't see that much color til the end of May. Lucky you!
ReplyDeleteThere are some really beautiful gardens in our neighborhood - I'm very lucky to get to see them every day!
DeleteYour neighbors flowers are beautiful! I love that printed trench! Have a great weekend!

Thank you Jill!
DeleteSeeing your jacket collection makes me feel less guilty about many I own! Great rain jacket selections. I love color and bold print!
ReplyDeleteI probably should get rid of some jackets, but I like them all!
DeleteLana... I am looking forward to flowers in Nova Scotia... apparently it's warming up next week, which is SUPER exciting... I'll be heading to our Public Gardens and taking lots of pictures... I can hardly wait...
ReplyDeleteI love trench coats, I'm looking for a great colored one ... ♡
A colored trench is fun. Hope you get lovely flowers soon!
DeleteHi Lana, I love your rain boots, they are so cute! Such a pretty time of year and thanks for sharing the pretty flowers. Enjoy today and the weekend!
ReplyDeleteJulie xo
Thanks Julie. My rain boots have seen a lot of rain!
DeleteOh your pictures are gorgeous! Love the colorful gardens! Don't they brighten up our dull rainy days? You had me giggling over the concept of your son delivering a bouquet of flowers to your neighbour. Created from her own flowers. Wonder if she saw him picking them or if she discovered it when she laid eyes on them at the door...
ReplyDeleteI don't think she realized until he got to the door. They are lovely neighbors but very particular about their yard! I think they're much happier now that the boys are older.
DeleteThank you for reminding me of May poles and May Days long forgotten. In Boston, May 1st was almost a holiday but in Tennessee, it wasn't recognized at all. You have such sweet sons to have taken flowers to neighbors on May Day. You are a good mommy, Lana. Your pictures are garden magazine quality! I love El Paso but now and then I do miss greener places.
ReplyDeleteThanks Leslie. It wasn't hard to take good pictures because the day and the flowers were both so lovely!
DeleteThese gorgeous floral photos remind me of when I lived in Victoria. What a stunning city that was...something was always in bloom. I miss it dearly. My daffodils only came out this week here.

Victoria is so beautiful and the flowers there are stunning. Bring on spring!
DeleteI totally concur! I have lots and lots of coats, but I don't know where in this house we would find an umbrella. The only time I think of bumbershoots is when my daughter wants to buy music tickets!! I do have rain boots for the mud when we tailgate, but that is about it. You have a lot more flowers in bloom in your neck of the woods. It is still pretty green and dull down in T-town.
ReplyDeleteI think I have one umbrella somewhere in the garage!
Deleteoh my gosh, those flowers are so pretty! And I love all of the rain gear you picked out! Whenever me and Mr. go to visit our family in Seattle we always say, that it's just not raining hard enough to actually need something but yet you're getting wet.
ReplyDeleteExactly - it's kind of a misty drizzle that drenches you!
DeleteSome of the most beautiful flower beds I have seen in a long time. Gorgeous and so glad you shared!
ReplyDeleteThank you Carrie!
Deletewow those flower beds are intense!!! so pretty
ReplyDeleteI love that your boys used to pick you flowers... I look forward to the day my kiddos bring me home flowers (assuming they do lol)
I can't believe how many coats you own! impressive
I definitely have too many coats!
DeleteYour neighbors really have green thumbs! Just tulips and forsythia blooming here - although my cherry tree is about ready to flower. When I just cleaned out our coat closet my heart sank to see that the bulk of the coats are mine (but I justified it because I have the least number of pairs of shoes in there!) Thanks for validating that lots of coats are necessary! Have a great weekend!
ReplyDeleteLots of coats are definitely necessary!
DeleteYour neighbors flowers/yard is so beautiful!! I love all your coats!! HA!! And your rain boots are super cute!!
ReplyDeleteThanks Katie. I keep thinking that I need a new pair of boots, but I love these so much!
DeleteSo do people in Seattle just get wet?? Because I know it rains a lot over there! Those *are* some gorgeous REAL flowers! Wow!
ReplyDeleteKind of - we just sort of move quickly from place to place and don't spend a lot of time outside. It's just too much hassle to get out the umbrella and coat I guess!
DeleteWow! Those flowers are fantastic! Around here we are just starting to get green, with very few flowers so far.
ReplyDeleteThey are really lovely - thanks Alison!
DeleteThose flowers can't be real, can they??
ReplyDeleteYup, they're real. Just not in my yard :)!
DeleteNo rain gear for me today but definitely May Flowers. I loved seeing what this link-up was about since May is my favorite month. So glad I am all linked up.
ReplyDeleteHappy May, Lana!
Happy May to you too Ada. So glad you linked up with us!
DeleteOh my goodness, those flowers are spectacular! How lucky for you to see them everyday. I am reading this on Monday and it really made my day!
ReplyDeleteHappy Belated May Day! I love the blooming May flowers, although my favorite is probably the lilacs around May 15th. Scarlet and I have been looking forward to them every day!
ReplyDeleteNo rain gear for me, sadly. I want some!
I love lilacs! They are so beautiful and they smell divine. You need to get yourself some rain gear!
DeleteLove all the flowers! We sure have our fair share of rain here in Scotland, so I'm always on a lookout for wellies and raincoats.I love rain gear you chose-let it be colorful and fun :)
ReplyDeleteI hope you'll find the time to link up with us this week:
