Teeth and Taxes and Luck
I've been missing from the online world the past few days for several reasons.
First, my mouth. I've always had problems with my teeth, even though I take very good care of them. When I was younger, my mom would take my brother, sister and me to the dentist, and I was always the one with a cavity or two. I have had so many crowns and root canals I've lost count. As I'm getting older, some of my old crowns are starting to fail, and on Thursday I had one replaced. By Friday I was in a lot of pain, so back to the dentist I went. The temporary crown was sitting a little high, so he adjusted it and now I feel much better.
I'm lucky that I live in an age of modern dental care. Imagine my plight if I lived in 1815. Problem teeth were routinely pulled, without the use of anesthesia, by anyone who decided they wanted to be a "dentist". Yikes.
Second, taxes. Not only have I been preparing our corporate and personal taxes, I've also been gathering information for my mother-in-law. Because she passed away last year, we are doing her final estate and personal income taxes. If you're counting, that's four tax returns. Double yikes.
However, I'm lucky that I have a very experienced accountant who knows how to talk me off the ledge. I'd be lost without her.
And there's good news! Spring has sprung around here, and my mom arrives this weekend for a ten day visit.
So even though I've been dealing with painful teeth and taxes this week, things could always be worse! If luck is believing you're lucky, then I'm a very lucky girl.
I hope everyone has a wonderful weekend. My friend Deena, who has a wonderful blog called Shoes To Shiraz, is currently running a series of posts called the Mommy Diaries. She is sharing stories from all sorts of guest writers about mommy victories and fails. I definitely recommend heading over and checking them out!

that tree is stunning, YAY spring!!!
ReplyDeleteI freaking hate the dentist so much... there's just something about it.
Have a lovely weekend :)
I'd rather do almost anything else than go to the dentist. Hope your week is great!
DeleteGlad to hear you're doing better! That tree just made my day, I would sit and stare at it for hours. Oh, and thanks for the shoutout - that also made my day, it's gonna be a lovely weekend for me because of you :)
ReplyDeleteAww...thanks. I love your blog and I'm really loving the Mommy Diaries.
DeleteI'm glad you are feeling better! That tree is so beautiful! Happy Spring!

Yay spring! Thanks Jill.
DeleteGlad your feeling better today!! Have a great time with your mom!!
ReplyDeleteThanks Katie!
DeleteI often thank my lucky stars that I don't have to deal with the dentistry of a hundred years ago. And I tell my two that they are lucky they don't have to deal with the dentistry of my youth. Those flouride soaked cotton strips - oohhh yuck.
ReplyDeleteHave a wonderful visit with your mom!
Why does flouride have to taste so bad? The toothpaste isn't great either.
DeleteThere's nothing like a great accountant!
ReplyDeleteI'd be lost without ours, who handles our four businesses! I feel you agony AND relate to those lucky stars, indeed!
Luck is on all of our sides, if we're willing to see it! I once wrote about it and turned it into a short video. Mind if I share the link? It's on my brand new website. :) Scroll down to "What fills the space between your luck and misfortune." http://annahelizabeth.com/media/
I'd be lost without our accountant too. Thanks for the link - I will check out your video!
DeleteYuke taxes! I haven't even started ours yet but it's my project this week. Because of the Feltys Syndrome I have something calked Sjogren's Disease were my body doesn't masaliva or tears. I constantly have to have something to drink with me ir I cannot talk. Because of this within two years of being diagnosed with it my teeth were ruined. I went to the Dentist and had 28 teeth pulled at one time and they didn't even put me to sleep!!! OMG Lana I thought I was dying. It took 7 months before it was healed up well enough to get dentures I wear them but I hate them. When I was at the conference I couldn't wear the bottom ones because were I had fallen out of bed my mouth and gums were so bruised and swollen. I was so embarrassed!
ReplyDeleteOh Rena, I'm so sorry about your teeth. Nothing to be embarrassed about though! I can't believe they didn't put you to sleep. You are one tough woman!
DeleteYou are a glass half-full girl! Glad things are going better with your mouth. Have fun!
ReplyDeleteThanks Carol!
DeleteI've always had problems with my teeth too Lana, and I hate going to the dentist so I feel your pain...literally :) Taxes are no fun either but I love the picture you put up of the spring blooms on that tree. Hope you feel better soon!

Thanks Nora. Spring will make everything better!
DeleteThanks for reminding me that I need to visit my dentist soon. :D
ReplyDeleteOh, taxes. I think it's a worldwide pet peeves.
That photo of a tree looks magnificent. A beautiful reminder that spring is coming! What a hope-filled season. :)
I can't imagine anybody likes the dentist or doing taxes! Thanks so much for stopping by!
DeleteTeeth and taxes?! Only Mom can make those better! :)
ReplyDeleteGood point! Glad she's here!
DeleteTeeth can be painful... I was in a fire when I was a toddler and the medication they gave me to kill off the infection ruined my teeth, I have 6 veneer crowns for my front teeth... I am not looking forward to having them replaced, I am hoping I can hold off for a few more years... it is so expensive but a necessity, especially when they are front teeth... I am glad yours are fixed.
ReplyDeleteI don't even want to think about taxes... at least not for the rest of this month... and I get money back but it is a bit of work just to get them done... so glad I only have one set to do.
I am thrilled your mom is coming, have fun and enjoy your time with her Lana xox
I'm so sorry about your teeth! I wish there was more affordable dental care available. Yay for getting money back on taxes! Hope you have a wonderful week.
DeleteSo glad that your dentist was able to adjust the crown - how painful that must have been! I hope the support of both your accountant and your mom gets you through those four tax returns - ugh! Have a wonderful visit with your mom!
ReplyDeleteThanks Susan - it's always great when she's here!
DeleteTeeth and taxes - yikes. Spring and mom visits - yay! My mom came for three days and it was wonderfully sweet and helpful.
ReplyDeleteNow we're back to winter for at least another week or two. Sigh.
Spring is coming - I feel it!
