Thanks to a suggestion by my blogging friend Katie, who writes at The Mishaps And Mayhem Of Solitary Life, I recently signed up with Blogging For Books. They give out copies of a wide variety of books in exchange for an honest review. I have a blog and I love to read so it's a perfect fit!
My first selection was Your Hidden Riches : Unleashing the Power of Ritual to Create a Life of Meaning and Purpose, written by Janet Bray Attwood and Chris Attwood, the authors of The Passion Test. As an individual who is trying to discover my purpose for the next phase of my life, I was immediately drawn to the very long title of this book. I read it over a few days during the Christmas holiday, and found it full of concrete, helpful information.
Rituals have been part of mankind's cultural lives since the beginning of....well, mankind. All of us have personal, small rituals that we do every day. Your Hidden Riches discusses ways to make rituals more effective by using your mind in a better way to regain focus and maintain balance.
At the beginning of the book, the authors point out three major areas where rituals can greatly benefit you:
- The first is time and how you manage it.
- The second is energy and how you expend it.
- The third is thought and how you organize it.
Boy, do I need help with all three of those! The book is broken into sections: rituals and your ideal life, rituals to meet your needs, and your greatest riches, which talks about using rituals to define and reach your dreams. Each chapter includes relevant, personal stories from the author's own clients. There are also quizzes to gauge where you are on a certain topic, and tons of specific "ritual practices" to get you started.
There is so much valuable information in this book that I plan to blog about parts of it throughout the year. As I was reading it, I dogeared pages that I wanted to come back to. When I was finished, I found that I had marked over half of the pages in the book!
As the authors say, "What you put your attention on grows stronger in your life." I highly recommend Your Hidden Riches if you want to put your attention on ways to organize and focus your time, energy and thoughts.
Have a wonderful weekend. Is it spring yet?
**I received a free copy of this book for review. However, all opinions are my own.**

DeleteSounds like something that I definitely need to get my hands on! I've been thinking of nothing else for days. I'm doing the #typeachallenge it's a whole year of challenges to make your blogging better and the very first one sent me into a spiral. I got it figured out at 2 am this morning and even managed a post about it for Monday at 4 am! Yes, I'm on definite coffee jitters now! Sleep tonight, both babies all night tomorrow and I may not survive!

DeleteThe title of the book also caught my attention. It sounds like an inspiring book for life. I am feeling a similar crossroads at the moment..which I like to assume is a normal part of life. In mid life there is so much happening that I often think we don't give ourselves credit! Thanks for sharing your review.
ReplyDeleteThat's a good point - there is so much going on right now, and we don't get a chance to take it all in.
