My New Happy: Happy Independence Day

Happy Independence Day

Happy Independence Day from Seattle!  Unfortunately, I won't be able to head downtown to see this beautiful fireworks display, because I'm too afraid to leave my house :).

We are five miles from the Tulalip Indian Reservation, where one can purchase every kind of firework imaginable.  And the people who live in my neighborhood do.

It's pretty much a war zone in my town on the 4th of July.  We've learned since moving here eleven years ago that we need to stay home to watch over our dog and make sure our house doesn't go up in flames.

It's kind of ironic that I can't exert my independence and leave my house on Independence Day. Oh well...at least I'm enjoying it with family, friends and lots of yummy food.  I hope you're doing the same!

    1. Thanks Jill. It is pretty crazy around here, but we survive it together!

  2. Hi Lana - Finding out your post was featured on Blogher yesterday probably felt as good as watching fireworks anyway! Congratulations!

A neighbor not too far away once set off a firework and started a grass fire. Montana is very dry most July 4ths, and the risk of fire is high. Good thing they had a garden hose nearby - but we worry too!
Hope you have an enjoyable day - at home!

    1. Thanks Susan. Our neighbor's deck caught on fire a few years ago - I have to admit I'm kind of glad when the 4th is over.

  4. We have a great view of the fireworks that's just a block away, which is awesome. Fingers crossed that your house remains intact. Happy 4th! :)

  5. We don't get the noise too much here since we live in a fire zone. There aren't even very many places to go see a good show. Lost a dog to the noise of fireworks years ago however. So sad. We couldn't have planned ahead since kids down the street started lighting them off a week before the holiday. You're a good pet mommy!! Have a lovely 4th!

    1. So sorry to hear about your dog. I always feel so sorry for the pets on the 4th. Hope your day was good as well.

  7. Fireworks are legal here and our neighborhoods are like yours. But we really enjoy it, everyone's out in our driveways up and down the street. Adults share cocktails, I have a dessert bar set up on the counter in my house and we all watch the show. Hope you get a chance to enjoy your night.

    1. We try to make it a party too. We had seven 16 year old boys here last night, so I had to keep an eye on them out front!

  10. Yikes! There are few fireworks in our area. Usually only those professionally presented by the communities and the occasional sparkler. When it comes to fireworks, My Husby is probably the most dangerous person in our neighbourhood. And that title, though deserved, really only happened by accident! :)

  11. We are in a new house now and I was curious to see what went on but I still went out of town to see old friends and family. Sounds crazy!
