Way back when I started my blog (almost two whole months ago now), one of my first posts was about my menopausal battle with anxiety and the vitamin supplements my doctor prescribed to help. Well, for the last two weeks I haven't been taking them.
Bad idea. I ran out, didn't have time to get more, blah blah blah. Needless to say, my anxiety was off the charts earlier this week. With the kind urging of my sweet husband (he actually wasn't that nice about it - but I can't say I blame him), I refilled my vitamins and I'm already starting to feel better.
What does this have to do with gratitude?
While I was waiting for the supplements to kick in, I had quite a mental talking to with myself. And I realized that my life is pretty great - and I need to be more grateful for that. I have trials and problems, but the good outweighs the bad, and lately I have forgotten.
Years ago, at the suggestion of my dear friend Oprah :), I kept a gratitude journal. I was faithful about writing in it every day - for awhile. I wonder where it is now? Anyway, I remember that keeping track of the good things in my life made me a more positive person, which radiated out into every area of my being.
Since this blog is now my journal, I'm going to get back into the gratitude habit. On the last Friday of every month I plan to share what I'm grateful for, and turn what I have into enough, and more...
--This month, I'm grateful for these two. So proud of my boys!
--I'm grateful for this guy. He's still my best friend after 32 years.
--I'm grateful I was on this planet with Maya Angelou. She was an inspiration to me and millions of others around the world during her lifetime. My friend Susan, who blogs at Of Every Moment, wrote a very beautiful tribute to her.
--I'm grateful my mom was able to visit for Mother's Day, and stay for two weeks. She lives in Arizona, and I miss her daily presence in my life.
I hope you find what you are grateful for! Have a wonderful weekend.
Great idea! Sometimes it takes making a list like this to turn our thoughts around. Enjoy your beautiful weekend! :)

DeleteI have a friend who has boxes of little spiral notecard pads. For years, she has ended her day writing down three things she is thankful for that day. She has kept each book through her marriage and raising her children,,,it has helped her keep joy and contentment. Gratitude is always a great place to go.
ReplyDeleteI agree Pam. How fun it would be to look through all of her notecard pads!
DeleteHi Lana! Yes, I think gratitude is the one sure thing we can all do to keep our mind happy and content no matter what is going on in our lives. I have done a gratitude journal several times and have also done two different "gratitude months" on my own blog. All of it helps! Thanks for the reminder...Kathy
ReplyDeleteThanks Kathy. I think it will help improve my attitude!
DeleteI know that anxiety can sometimes trick us into thinking that there isn't anything to be grateful for. So glad you got back on the meds and are back to acknowledging all that you have to be grateful for. Especially those three people who love you.

Thank you Nora. I'm looking forward to continuing my gratitude journal.
DeleteA gratitude journal is a great idea! This post is a good reminder. When I'm stressed out I always think of the negative instead of positive. I'm glad you are feeling better and hope you are enjoying the weekend!
