Confession time....I did not own a little black dress.
I'm 47 years old, a LBD is sort of a staple item for any woman's closet, AND I'm a fashion major. Don't ask how I found myself in this situation, because honestly, I have no reasonable answer.
So off to the mall I went. There were so many options, it was almost overwhelming. I actually ended up buying two dresses because I couldn't decide.
I'm really happy with this Calvin Klein dress. An A line looks flattering on almost any body type, and I love the contrasting hem and skinny belt above my natural waist. You can find it online at Macy's.
I hope you can excuse my shoes - it was cold and rainy on the evening of the auction and I couldn't bring myself to put on strappy sandals. Looking at the picture now, I see what a mistake that was. Let's all close our eyes and imagine I was wearing these.
Ah, that's better.
Now back to reality.

This cocktail dress looks great on you! I love the white accents and the belt! Sometimes it doesn't make sense to wear strappy sandals. The shoes you wore are cute! Hope you had a great time at the event!

Thank you - we did have fun!
DeleteHold up...fashion major???!!! That sounds fun. I want to do that.
ReplyDeleteIt was fun! Just need to apply it to my life right now :)
DeleteWoo-hoo! Don't you look pretty! Great choice.
ReplyDeleteThanks Jennifer.
DeleteI'm an Eileen Fisher addict, so my closet is teeming with LBDs.But I don't own a single pair of Lovely But Impractical Shoes. Nor will I ever. http://www.nytimes.com/2012/09/26/booming/26story-booming.html?ref=booming
ReplyDeleteLove your look AND love the shoes you wore. .
Thank you! I could never wear those shoes even if I could afford them - I'd break my neck! I'll stick with what I have! Thanks for the kind compliment.
DeleteThis looks really good! I'm sure it felt great, too! :)
ReplyDeleteIt is actually very comfortable! Thank you.
DeleteWe traveled in Southeast Asia for a month in January, including a 13 day cruise. We needed to pack light, so my "go to" dress up cruise outfit was a no wrinkle little black dress from Dress Barn that I wore with different accessories to change the look. I really think it's still true---we all need a LBD. As for the shoes----no strappy sandals. I didn't want to spend the rest of our trip in a cast or be having hip surgery in Laos.
ReplyDeleteI agree about the strappy sandals - I would break my neck! Thanks for stopping by.
DeleteAmazing dress! I love the black and white lines together - so unique and eye catching!

Thank you Jennifer. The white at the waist was what sold it for me.
DeleteNice! I like the white and taupe hemline. It makes it stand out a little from other LBDs. Nice!
ReplyDeleteThanks Susan!
DeleteVery pretty! I think the shoes you wore were fine, but with the taupe, perhaps you could wear it with taupe heels sometime too? My daughter just bought a very cute pair. She lives in Seattle -- :) :) what size do you wear? :)
ReplyDeleteYou said you bought 2 dresses Lana - hope we see the other one sometime soon!
I like the idea of taupe heels with this - it would be a whole different look. I'm a size 9. I still haven't worn the other dress, but I will definitely share it when I do!
DeleteMore casual probably, but classy. Darn. Looks like you will have to buy your own taupe heels then - my daughters wouldn't fit you - -or me either for that matter! :(
DeleteAmazing dress! You look absolutely beautiful
ReplyDeleteThank you for the nice comment Beata!
DeleteThis drss is great and you look gorgeous. :)
ReplyDeleteThanks Ginny!
DeleteI don't have a little black dress either! Everyone talks up the LBD so much I think my expectations are too high and I can't settle on one. This one is so pretty with the the waistline and hem detail! I love the fit!
ReplyDeleteI agree - maybe that's why it took me so long to buy one. I love the waistline too.
DeleteWelcome to the wonderful world of the LBD my dear!!! Way to go with your very 1st LBD.....I LOVE IT!!!!! Don't worry you will not have a hard time looking for other LBDs....it's so classic & so wearable!

Thanks Rebecca - you're so sweet!
DeleteI LOVE that dress! Super cute!
ReplyDeleteHmm . . . maybe I should join the LBD club. Who knows what I'd find!
I say go for it! There are SO many choices, you're sure to find something you love!
DeleteI love your little black dress pick! I actually don't have one that I love either! Will have to work on that after seeing your cute find!! xo
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for the nice comment. I tried on so many that day, it was a bit overwhelming!
DeleteLove the dress, and it looks great on you! I have a few LBDs but always reach for more colorful ones first ... go figure;)
ReplyDeleteI definitely prefer color too, which is probably why I didn't have a black dress in my closet when I needed one!
DeleteThis one is perfect for your figure and I beleive lbd dresses are great because they give us the best figure. I only have one in black and I get compements any time I wear it.In general dresses make us women look special.
ReplyDeleteI agree - I should try to wear them more often. Thank you so much for the kind comment!
DeleteYou know it's become an institution when there's an acronym for it. LBD. And everyone knows it. (But me)
ReplyDeleteHa ha! Well, you do now. Glad I could help :)
DeleteI think the dress is beautiful! I always wear the same couple of dresses and I wonder if people notice! But I don't dress up that often so it's hard to justify buying a new dress for one occasion.
ReplyDeleteThank you! I'm hoping to get more use out of this - might need to suggest a dinner out to my husband!
Deleteyou're GORGEOUS in that dress!!! well you're gorgeous anyways but that dress looks great on you!
ReplyDeleteYou are so sweet! Thank you very much for the nice compliment :) Have a great weekend!
DeleteThis is a great LBD-such a pretty look on you!! Thanks so much for stopping by and commenting:)

Thank you Marta! I appreciate the comment.
